Speak to an expert clinician and get to the bottom of your symptoms quickly with a private pelvic and abdominal MRI scan at Lanarkshire Private Clinic.
A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan is a safe and painless diagnostic tool that produces high-resolution images of soft tissue, organs, and structures within the body. As there is no radiation, it is useful for monitoring conditions over time, or when other imaging methods may not provide sufficient clarity.
A pelvic and abdominal MRI can help clinicians to evaluate and diagnose symptoms in the stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, intestines, gallbladder, uterus, prostate, and rectum.

How It Works
Book your scan.
Book your private MRI scan online, or by calling our friendly team during opening hours. We often have same-day, next-day, and evening scans available.
Get confirmation.
Our team will get in touch to go through a questionnaire to ensure an abdominal MRI is safe for you. You will need to obtain a referral from your GP before booking.
Attend your scan.
Arrive 15 minutes before your scan, register at reception, and complete any pre-appointment checks. Your scan will typically take between 30-60 minutes.
Get your scan results.
Results of your MRI will be sent to you and your chosen medical practitioner within 48 hours, so you can create a personalised plan of your next steps.
A pelvic and abdominal MRI scan can be used to diagnose the following:
Uterine abnormalities, such as fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, or endometriosis;
Ovarian conditions, such as cysts, tumours, or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS);
Pelvic floor disorders, such as a prolapsed uterus or bladder, or pelvic floor dysfunction;
Gallbladder and biliary system issues, such as gallstones, gallbladder inflammation, or bile duct blockages;
Kidney or adrenal gland conditions, such as kidney stones, cysts, or tumours.
Liver and pancreas, prostate, and rectal issues.
Prior to your MRI, you will be asked to take off any jewellery and empty your pockets (wallet, keys, and mobile phone). You will be provided with a locker to securely store your valuables. Always follow any specific instructions given by your healthcare provider.
You can bring a friend or family member to your MRI scan, but they will need to wait for you in our reception area.
During the procedure, you will be asked to lie on a table that slides into the MRI machine. It is important to remain as still as possible to ensure clear images. The machine will make loud tapping or thumping noises, but our cutting-edge Philips 5300 MRI scanners are equipped with soothing lights, calming sounds, and nature-inspired visuals to help you feel comfortable and at ease.
A pelvic and abdominal MRI scan typically takes up to 30 minutes.
MRI scans are generally considered safe and do not use ionizing radiation (unlike X-rays or CT scans). However, they are not suitable for people with certain metal implants, such as pacemakers or cochlear implants, due to the strong magnetic field.
Always inform your referrer and the MRI technician about any metal implants, medical devices, or other health concerns.
After the MRI scan, you can usually resume your normal activities right away, unless you have taken a sedative. If contrast material was used, your referrer may provide specific aftercare instructions.
The images from your MRI scan will be reviewed by a radiologist, who will prepare a report for you and your referrer. This is usually completed within 48 hours.
After receiving our report, your referrer will review the findings and discuss the results with you.
Depending on your symptoms and the conditions being investigated, other imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans, or ultrasound may be recommended. However, MRI is particularly effective for imaging soft tissue, making it the preferred choice for pelvic and abdominal symptoms and conditions.
